Luke 1:31-35
31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.
32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
When Gabriel told Mary she would have a child, he told her these things.
His name will be Jesus.
Jesus (Joshua in Hebrew) which means "Yahweh saves" or "God is salvation".
In other words, He is our Savior.
Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah.
He will be great.
The idea that He would be abundantly important.
And Jesus is that, as our Savior and King.
He will be called Son of the Highest.
Or some translations say the "Most High".
This is a reference to God, Who is the Highest, the Best, the Greatest.
Jesus is His son.
God will give Him the throne of David.
God did give Jesus that throne.
It was there and Jesus could have taken it and made it His and ruled.
But that wasn't why He came.
He did not come to set up a physical kingdom.
That was done in the Old Testament.
Now it was time for the Lord to establish His spiritual kingdom.
To take His people from Satan's grasp.
To erase the sin of Adam.
And Jesus was declared king and entered Jerusalem with the praise of a king.
Then, as a true King, He gave Himself to save all of His subjects.
Only after that He ascended to the true throne and sits at the right hand of God, the Father.
He will reign forever, and His kingdom will never end.
Jesus, our King and Lord, does reign now and will reign eternally.
His kingdom will not end, but He will give the kingdom to God when it is complete.
He is the Holy One and will be called the Son of God.
Jesus is the Holy One, perfect in life and death and resurrection.
He is the true Son of God.
He gives us His perfection and His righteousness.
Washing our sins away with His blood so we are counted as equals before God.
Though we do not deserve it and cannot earn it.
Jesus gives us this if we will believe and follow.
