2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
What does it mean to "walk by faith"?
In this context, walk means we live and conduct ourselves.
We act out our faith.
We act out what we believe in.
So, we live and act like we believe something.
What do we have faith in?
Jesus, yes.
The Holy Spirit, yes.
God, yes.
But Satan and the demons know God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit exist.
Our belief has to be more than just believing God exists.
We have no doubt that God exists.
The universe proves it to us.
So, what is our faith in?
We believe in God's attitude toward us as described in the Bible.
We believe in the verses that tell us about His love for us.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
We believe and have faith in the fact that God loves us all.
He loves everyone.
Our faith is in Jesus, that He loves us.
That He gave Himself for us.
We believe that He has given us eternal life.
He has given us forgiveness.
Jesus gives us His righteousness.
We believe God sent Jesus to save, not to condemn.
His hand is reaching out to us.
Jesus came to us in the dark, out of love to find us.
And He is the light, drawing us out of the darkness.
God is calling us to His light.
The Lord wants us to come to the light.
To be forgiven, to be saved for all eternity.
He cares about us and wants us to have purpose.
Our faith in God, is in His love and will for us.
It's in the actions that Jesus took to save us.
It's in the purpose He has given us.
And so, we look at the last of the verse "not by sight".
No matter what we see looming in the distance.
No matter the giants we face.
We know God is with us.
Here we will have struggles.
We will be persecuted at times.
But the Lord is near.
"I see famine coming!"
Do not be afraid, God is with us.
"I see the storm of war on the horizon!"
Fear not, the Lord is by our side.
"I'm afraid to die."
Jesus has gone before us.
He will bring us to Him just as He promised.
So, we live at peace.
Knowing that the Lord is with us.
We live and conduct ourselves with the knowledge that God is greater than all our problems.
He already has the solution for us and is sharing that solution with us in the Bible.
That is our faith and why we do not walk by our human sight.
We follow a great God who does not need us but loves us and helps us.
