Luke 2:9-14
9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
See in verse 10, the angel is announcing the good news.
Proclaiming the birth of the Savior.
This announcement or proclamation is a source of great joy and gladness to everyone, to all people.
Because the Savior has come.
God's salvation is here.
Then verse 14.
God is extending peace to everyone on earth.
His peace, a chance to not be at odds with God.
To no longer struggle and fight with the Lord.
This is the Father's peace offering to His children.
He is offering His peace of mind and rest in the Savior.
His Son, Who is given for this peace.
"goodwill toward men!" is translated different ways.
But the intent is that God is pleased to make this offer to us.
It pleases God, that He is making this way for everyone to be saved.
It shows His good intention to us, even though we are lost and sinful.
God's will for us is always for our good.
This is God's grace to us.
The ultimate offering of grace.
Jesus, our Savior, Who lived and died for all of us.
