Psalm 91:14-16

14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;

I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble;

I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life I will satisfy him,

And show him My salvation.”

This Psalm, Psalm 91, is about abiding, trusting, and loving the Lord and His reaction to us.

When we love God, He responds in love and protective strength toward us.

This love mentioned in verse 14 means to love and to cling to and delight in.

When we live that obedient life for God, because we love and appreciate Him.

People who love God, He will deliver, exalt, answer, protect, honor, and satisfy.

All these promises are ours from the Lord.

When we love God, it opens the door of Heaven and God blesses us like only He can.

He delivers us from trouble, temporary troubles in this life.

And He delivers us from death with eternal life.

Because we know His name, this means we acknowledge and praise and exalt the Lord, He will in turn exalt us.

We do not need to promote ourselves or lift ourselves up, God will cause our efforts to be appreciated.

When we pray, God will answer us.

He listens for us; He wants to hear from us and to show His care for us in His response to us.

We may not always understand God's answer to our prayers, but we can trust that He always does what is best for us.

And the Lord will be with us in our hard times.

Difficult times will come to us in this life; it is written in God's word.

The Lord tells us this is a part of this life.

But know that no matter what we go through, God is with us.

He never leaves us and we should acknowledge that even in good times, but it is especially comforting to know our Savior is there for us when things are tough.

And know that the Lord will deliver us.

That word means to rescue, and it also means to equip and strengthen.

God will rescue us, but His Spirit will also strengthen us and equip us to withstand and endure and even fight the forces of evil if needed.

Then notice that the Lord will honor us.

And it does mean what we think of as honor, He will exalt and promote us.

But it also means that God will value us, we will be important to Him.

Now you may say that God always values His children and that is true.

But here this Psalm talks about those who are not just God's children from creation, but these are God's children in love and devotion.

These are God's children that are following His commandments in love and sincerity of heart.

Even though, we are still flawed, like David and Peter, and so many that came before us.

Finally, God promises us long life and salvation.

We should equate this with eternal life, the salvation given by believing in Jesus.

And definitely, when we love the Lord, we have salvation from Him.

But there is also a sense that God gives us better days, richer days that satisfy our souls.

The idea is that God does add days to our lives, but more importantly, He adds life to our days.

For this and many more reasons, we set our love on our God, our Savior, our Father.
