Genesis 3:1-7
1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.
5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
It starts with a question, "Has God indeed said?"
Did God say that?
Do you know what God said?
Of itself, not an awful question, we should know what God has told us.
We should know the scriptures.
We should know them and understand them.
Did God say that?
The temptation is to question what God said.
But then comes the devious implication.
Is it true?
Did God speak the truth?
Then comes the lie, "You will not surely die."
"God has lied to you," Satan says.
"God is not truthful, believe me instead," the Devil encourages us.
Then another lie, and an accusation.
"For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
A lie because we know they (or we) did not become like God.
Instead, they were pulled away from God.
Finally, the accusation, "God knows".
"God knows this would be good for you, but He doesn't want you to have it."
"God does not have your best interest at heart."
An accusation that is also the biggest lie.
It cuts right to the core of God and Who He is.
This says that God is dishonest and does not love us.
It says the Lord's intention to us is to do harm to us.
These are the lies and accusations of Satan.
The world still repeats these lies today.
Because the world listens to Satan.
Instead of knowledge and power, that the Devil alluded to, they received nakedness and shame.
They received spiritual death and our lifespans were shortened over time.
When they believed the word of Satan over the word of God, they sinned.
The price of sin is death.
These lies and this accusation is alive and well in the world.
Be aware of this.
Guard yourself by knowing the word of God.
Know the scriptures, follow what the Lord has truly told us.
Do not be deceived.
Believe in and trust in God and His Word, our Savior, Jesus.
