Luke 1:18
And Zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
Zacharias had trouble believing the angel God sent to tell him that he and his wife would have a child.
That child would be John the Baptist.
Sometimes we have trouble believing God's promises.
We can't understand how they work.
Those promises defy our human thinking.
They can be directly opposed to our natural instincts.
Like Zacharias, we look at the physical situation.
We see the issues and the problems, why God's word won't happen.
But our reasoning, our thinking, our doubts are no match for God's power.
John the Baptist was born as promised.
And no matter what our situation, we should follow what the Lord has said.
Love our enemies.
But that doesn't make sense, our enemies will kill us.
Still, love our enemies.
Bless those who hurt you and use you.
But they will just keep abusing us.
Bless them anyway.
Preach the word, the Bible, God's word.
No one wants to hear it anymore.
Preach it anyway.
Have faith and follow Jesus.
But they are slandering us, imprisoning us, killing us.
Jesus still says, "Follow me."
This is not logical; it doesn't make sense.
It's not easy to understand.
Sometimes we don't understand and may never understand.
But our job is not to understand.
We are called to believe and obey.
Do the things the Lord has commanded, because He said to do them.
Sometimes this is very easy.
Be kind and loving to those in need.
Be helpful and in prayer for others.
But there are other times, when it is difficult.
We must do the right things, because they are right, even to our detriment.
And we must have faith in our Lord and Savior.
He is always there with us.
We just need to believe.
Faith is the key, not understanding.
Trust in the Lord, He is able to deliver what He has promised.
